Painful Love

By Jamari Jordan

I want that reckless, painful love
I want that love that’s so painful that I’m not proud of
I want that love that burns everything in its path
I want that love that’s cruel and full of wrath

I want that love that’s mind-boggling, excruciating pain
I want that love whose flame doesn’t extinguish in the rain
I want that love that absolutely hurts
I want that love that is consistent and doesn’t come in spurts

I want that love that I can’t stop thinking about you no matter how much I pray
I want that love that I’m sending you flowers just because it’s Wednesday
I want that love that I hurry home from work
I want that love that you stand by me no matter how many times I’m a jerk

I need that love that includes the white picket fence, family, and rocking chairs
I need that love that’s complete and not us just splitting hairs
I need that love that I can drown in from toes and everything up above
I want that love,  I need YOUR love.
